COMMITTEE OF CONCERNED RESIDENTS OF SURULERE ADVOCACY GROUP

In 2021, Prof. Ehi Eric Esoimeme became a well-recognized community leader when he formed the Concerned Residents of Surulere Advocacy Group to advocate against electricity fraud which culminates into high estimated electricity bills and the shortage of Prepaid meters. The Committee of Concerned Residents of Surulere Advocacy Group engages in strategic partnerships with prominent individuals and organisations to achieve its aims and objectives. Since its inception, the Committee has been in a strategic partnership with Honourable Desmond Elliott, the Lagos State House of Assembly Member of Surulere I Constituency for the purpose of organising regular seminars to educate the people on their legal right and initiating diplomatic meetings where issues are discussed and resolved. The strategic partnership also witnessed the establishment of the Honourable Desmond Elliott Support Initiative for Widows and Widowers aimed to subsidise the payment of Prepaid Meters by fifty percent. The Honourable Desmond Elliott Support Initiative has seen more than fifty residents benefit from this Support initiative.

The Committee of Concerned Residents of Surulere Advocacy Group has been successful in creating awareness of the rights of the people to dispute their electricity bills and apply for prepaid meters. The movement has also been successful in educating the general public on the platform set up to help Surulere Residents contest their Bills. The platform collates the relevant information to help Surulere Residents contest their high estimated bills on their behalf through legal complaints and petitions. Once the Bills are contested through the Pressure Group Platform, the account is placed on open reconciliation.

This platform is supported by the law firm of Prof. Ehi Eric Esoimeme (E-Four and AAF) which provides legal services to Surulere Residents with estimated billing issues and prepaid meters. The latest Petition which received more than 3000 signatures from Surulere Residents and filed by Barrister Prof. Ehi Eric Esoimeme with the Federal Ministry of Power has achieved the desired results. Power Supply has since improved and Prepaid Meters are now issued within a reasonable time. The movement has seen more than 1000 high estimated billing accounts receive credit adjustment. This movement was inspired by the will and desire of Prof. Ehi Eric Esoimeme to fight electricity fraud. Prof. Ehi Eric Esoimeme is a Financial Crimes Compliance Consultant with more than a decade of research and practical experience.

COMMITTEE ON HEALTH EDUCATION

Nearly nine out of 10 adults have difficulty using everyday health information that is routinely available in health care facilities. Defined as the ability to process and understand basic health information needed to make informed health decisions, health literacy requires skills to break down that information. This involves calculating numbers to determine things such as cholesterol and sugar levels, measuring medication and understanding nutrition labels. Poor literacy skills have been associated with higher health care expenses by affecting a patient’s capability to effectively use available information to implement health behaviors or respond to health warnings.

Educational and Community-Based Programs

Health educators attempt to bridge the gap between distributed information and the public by developing effective educational programs for communities to prevent disease and injury, improve health and enhance the quality of life. These programs play a key role in reaching people outside of traditional health care settings such as schools, worksites and hospitals.

For a community to effectively improve its health, changes are often needed in physical, social, organizational and political environments in order to adjust factors that could be contributing to health problems. For example, communities may need to implement new programs or policies to change community norms in order to promote better health.

These programs work to educate communities on issues such as:

Chronic diseases

Mental illness/behavioral health

Unintended pregnancies

Nutrition and obesity prevention

Substance abuse

Through successful education programs that use proper cultural communication methods, public health professionals are able to promote policy change and advocacy for better health education in communities. Health educators are constantly working to ensure that individuals have a clear understanding of how life choices affect health status.

DOCTOR ANGELA'S COMMITTEE FOR WELFARE AND BASIC AMENITIES

Dr. Ehi Eric Esoimeme Esq. and his mother, Dr. Angela Esoimeme

The Committee for Welfare and Basic Amenities was named after Doctor Angela Esoimeme, the mother of Professor Ehi Eric Esoimeme Esq. in honour of her charitable works when she was alive. Doctor Angela Esoimeme always cared for the people in need by providing them with welfare assistance and the basic amenities.

The Committee's programmes have been designed to continue the legacy of Doctor Angela Esoimeme to reduce poverty and inequality. When people have access to the resources they need, they are better equipped to participate fully in society. This participation fosters a sense of community, reduces crime rates, and promotes overall well-being. Welfare support acts as a safety net, ensuring that vulnerable populations are not left behind.

Our welfare support encompasses a broad spectrum of assistance programs designed to ensure that basic needs are met, and opportunities are accessible to all. These programs range from financial aid, healthcare, and education to employment services. By addressing these essential needs, welfare assistance helps to create a stable foundation upon which individuals and families can build better lives.
